THE ROAD TO KONA
Diary by Sean Bruce

July

July was always going to be the start of the traing block into Hawaii, it was just a matter of staying in touch until 1/7/06 (which also happens to be tax time and my wedding anniversary!! ..I forgot both oops) anyway as is usually the case after the Aussie Ironman I stop swimming because its too cold, cut back the bike to nice fine days only and generally keep running as often as possible. So things were going very much to plan.
1 July came and went, we are also doing house reno's which I am doing so time was a bit of a squeeze. But still managed a few long rides so far, once to Portsea, the day before Phillip island duathlon and then last Saturday a couple of repeats of Arthurs seat. That was all good until the trip back and by Mordialloc I had bonked big time, down to 15kmh delirious ........so I sat at bakers delight in mordi for about 15 mins and chugged down donuts, coffee scrolls and powerade.......all good. Also started swimming 2 weeks ago. Just by myself at the moment as I wouldn't make a squad session just yet but that can wait till next month.
So probably not the most ideal start to training for Kona but 'beggars cant be choosers'......Karen has been away a lot with work so with the 3 kids ( who have been quite sick) training has to take a back seat. All being equal however the next month looks pretty good ......as long as nobody gets sick and the weather holds out I will be looking for a very big August.......see you out there!
